Motoko Rich
Motoko Rich writes about national K-12 education for The New York Times.
Prior to that, she covered the national economy, writing about work
force training, unemployment, housing and retirement. She also covered
the book publishing industry for four years, during which time she wrote
a series about the Future of Reading. She joined The Times in 2003 to
write for the House & Home section and covered the run-up to the
real estate boom. Motoko Rich has been publishing reporter for the Culture section of The
New York Times since 2006. In 2008, she began writing a series of
articles examining how the Internet and other technological and social
forces are changing the way people read. Previously, she had covered
residential real estate trends for the Style department since joining
The Times in 2003. Before that, she was a reporter at The Wall Street
Journal for six years, first writing about environmental and
transportation issues for the Southeast Journal, and then covering
commercial real estate in New York. She also worked as a reporter at the
Financial Times in London. Rich graduated summa cum laude with a
history degree from Yale in 1991.
